Ngäbe-Buglé

In the western highlands of Panama, the Ngäbe-Buglé people inhabit the country’s largest comarca (or region), formed in 1997 to ensure their autonomy. The Ngäbe-Buglé play a crucial role in Panamanian culture, from cocoa production to handicrafts and the preservation of spiritual rituals. Ngäbe spirituality is deeply connected to natural elements, such as waterfalls and cocoa, which is used in ceremonies and medicine. Visitors can participate in rituals, explore the jungle and learn about organic cocoa production. The region offers diverse cultural experiences, including traditional dances and handicraft workshops. From the city of David, in the province of Chiriqui, the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca can be reached by car. The community of Chiriqui is about 2 hours away, while areas in the province of Bocas del Toro are approximately 4 hours away through the jungle.
